MC-4 is an asphalt water-based emulsion that provides low cost rust protection for ductile iron, cast iron metal and encasement pipe. It is an environmentally friendly product that is widely certified, easy to use, and safe to work with.
General Surface Preparation
MC-4 may be applied to a variety of surfaces. The surface should be as free of oil, grease, dirt and other foreign substances as possible. MC-4 can be applied to damp surfaces, but better results will be obtained by using dry surfaces. Use two coats on heavily rusted surfaces. MC-4 may be applied over itself and other coatings.
Temperature: For best adhesion and dry times, the surface to be coated should be between 60°-180°F (15°-80°C). If the surface temperature cannot be raised, increase the coating's, but do not exceed 100°F (38°C) in a dip application or 180°F (80°C) in a spray application.
Directions for Use
Preparation: Stir coating prior to use. Clean all equipment with mineral spirits prior to use. Thinning is not required, but can be done by adding water - do not dilute more than 50%.
Application Equipment: MC-4 may be applied with an airless sprayer, pressure pot, dip process, roller, or brush. Use buckets to dip roller or brush rather than pans to avoid bubbles.
Rate of Coverage: MC-4 provides the best protection at a coverage thickness of 2.5 - 3 mm dry (5.5 - 7.5 mm wet). Depending on the porosity of the surface, coverage should be 320 square feet per gallon, or 8 meters per liter. If dipping, leave item immersed for 12 seconds.
Drying: MC-4 will dry to the touch within 15 minutes and fully cure in 24 hours. For faster drying times, apply forced air immediately after application.
Finish Coat: MC-4 may be top coated after 24 hours with most finish coatings, including enamel, alkyd, epoxy, and polyurethane. Avoid high solvent coatings.
Clean Up: Clean all equipment with mineral spirits before and after application.
Storage:Store MC-4 drums on pallets, at a temperature above 60°F (15°C). Keep away from high voltage electrical equipment. Cover drums when not in use, and do not return any used material back to the storage container. If storing for extended periods of time, stir every 30-45 days. This product is for industrial use only, and is to be applied by trained professionals.
